Fire Codes

Regulatory Updates and Code Compliance

A Critical Safeguard

Fire code compliance is more than a regulatory checkbox—it's a critical aspect of life safety. By ensuring compliance with fire safety codes, you help prevent tragic accidents, property damage, and costly disruptions to your operations. If you fail to comply, your business may face severe penalties, including fines, legal action, and even business closure.

Benefits of Compliance

Proper fire safety measures reduce the risk of injury and damage. Compliance minimizes disruptions, like accidents or enforcement actions, and it builds trust because customers and partners value businesses that prioritize safety.

Potential Consequences of Non-Compliance:

  • Financial penalties from local, state, or federal agencies
  • Increased insurance premiums or loss of coverage
  • Legal liability if an incident occurs
  • Forced closure until compliance is restored

Steps You Can Take

Fire Extinguishers:

Checking the inspection tag to confirm the last inspection date and ensure it’s within the required monthly and annual intervals. Inspect their physical condition for dents, rust, corrosion, leaks, or clogged nozzles and replace or service them if damaged.  Make sure the extinguishers are visible, unobstructed, and mounted at the correct height.

Fire Alarms:

Check the batteries and power, ensure the fire alarm control panel displays “system normal” with no trouble or supervisory conditions, and verify that strobes, horns, and voice alarms activate properly during tests.

Sprinkler Systems:

Look for leaks, corrosion, or obstructions around sprinkler heads and pipes, and confirm that all control valves are in the open position and are either locked or supervised.
